What We’re Learning

The Way: Studies in the Songs of Ascent

The Bible gives the follower of Jesus Christ a multi-faceted identity. We're servants of God. We're disciples of Jesus. We're temples of the Holy Spirit. One key identity is that pilgrim. We're people who are on a journey...a journey to God.

This summer we're going to be studying what Eugene Peterson calls an "old dog-eared song book" in the collection of Psalms known as the Songs of Ascent. Tradition has it that the Jewish pilgrims sang these songs as they made their way, three times a year, to Jerusalem to celebrate the key festivals. These are songs for the road. As we study them together we'll learn much that will encourage us and equip us for our own road...our journey to God.
